Teaching vacancies in the UAE are among the most searched Gulf job categories. Before applying, know what the UAE Government Portal requires from teachers, because a licence and the right documents decide whether you can work legally.

Teacher Licence: Mandatory
The UAE Government Portal states that the UAE’s Education Professions licence is a mandatory requirement for education professionals in the UAE, and that teachers must hold a teacher’s licence to work legally.
Qualifications and Documents
For teaching in UAE public and private schools, applicants must have a minimum qualification of a bachelor’s degree or a 4-year university degree. The UAE Government Portal also lists:
- A criminal clearance record.
- A medical fitness report.
- Original educational certificates.
- Attested certificates for degrees from universities outside the UAE.
The Licensing Test
Applicants get three attempts to pass the licensing test. After three failed attempts, they can retake it after six months, and the licensing system offers training in the meantime.
Dubai and Abu Dhabi Schools
Private schools in Dubai are regulated by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), and schools in Abu Dhabi by the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK). Check the school’s regulator for any additional requirements. Related guide: Abu Dhabi jobs and UAE job vacancies.
Apply Safely
- Ask for an offer that can be verified through MoHRE (or the relevant free-zone authority) and confirm the school or company in the National Economic Register.
- Do not pay anyone for a teaching job: the employer is responsible for recruitment expenses under UAE Labour Law.
- A visit visa does not give you the right to work.
About Salaries
We do not publish salary ranges in this article because no official source gives reliable pay figures by job, and the numbers on other websites vary widely. Compare several current job advertisements for your role, and make sure your offer letter states the basic salary, allowances, accommodation, transport and medical insurance clearly before you accept.
